Telling a story
Assume there are two scenarios that you would like to display independently in your dashboard. Say, in your organization you practice two methods of performing RCM analysis.
- The review group method (developed by John Moubray)
- The interview method (described by J.C. Leverette at NAVAIR)
You would like the option of analyzing RCM analysis performance of either or both methods. Do it by using Qlik’s story function as follows. One story relates to the effectiveness of the RCM analysis project when using only the traditional “review group meeting” methodology. In this methodology SMEs and a facilitator perform the analysis as a team exercise.
A second story relates to the overall organizational RCM effectiveness which would also include RCM carried out using the “interview” methodology. In this methodology a facilitator (for example, Mai) uses existing documentation (e.g. available FMEAs) and develops the RCM analysis while consulting the SMEs as necessary for clarification and validation.
How do we use the dashboards to tell both stories? Of the 17 systems in the RCM analysis project, assume that the Scrubber and Aftercooler were analyzed using the interview method. The remaining 15 were analyzed by the review group method.
- In “My personal cloud” In the app overview hit the stories tab.
- Create a new story called “Excluding Interview Method”.
- Then hit + in the time line and selected “Embedded sheet”
- Next hit the sheets tab, go to the RCM Progress sheet, and set up the following filter:
- Aftercooler
- Backup Generator
- Compressed Air System
- UMD System
- ESD System
- Fire Hydrant System
- Gas Generator
- GG Enclosure
- GG Gas Aftercooler
- Heating System
- Intake Plenum
- Measurements MA
- Power distribution sys
- Power gas system
- Sprinkler system
- Go back to the stories tab and select RCM Progress as the embedded sheet. (You could also add the other four sheets to the story.) The filter is now in the story.
You can play the story by going to “My personal cloud”, RCM Dashboard, and Stories tab. Hit the “Excluding Interview Method” icon and the “Go to sheet” button. The RCM Progress sheet displays with the 15 RCM analyses pre-selected filter.

In the “RCM completed vs scheduled” horseshoe chart, 0% and 200% , qualitative labels ( Behind schedule, Ahead of schedule) were added.
Only failure modes of systems whose status is “completed”, “in audit, or “implemented” are considered in the “Failure modes” horseshoe chart.
A link was added to each dashboard that takes the user into the explanatory notes.
