Course Structure
The course (see outline), called “Achieving Reliability from Data” is comprehensive. It provides a maintenance manager or engineer with confidence in his knowledge of each reliability related topic that is relevant in a practical maintenance environment. The course has four modules. Each module is a stepping stone to the subsequent challenge. The last module completes the goal – to achieve practical, verifiable reliability from the analysis of data.
- Maintenance decisions. A clear and eye opening discussion of exactly what a maintenance decision is. We introduce right at the start the idea of a verifiable policy for good decisions. – about 45 minutes to an hour.
- Initial RCM. RCM constitutes the precise the language of maintenance The theory and practical aspects of RCM are provided. There are hands-on exercises using cloud software for each of the 7 RCM questions. Of particular importance is learning the proper balance of detail within a defensible RCM analysis. Without this understanding an RCM project risks superficiality or will become bogged down in unnecessary detail. – about 1-1/2 days. Cloud software.
- Living RCM. Living RCM extends the initial RCM conceptual framework that participants will apply to day-to-day maintenance work order practice. This module expands upon RCM concepts and answers two vital questions for the maintenance manager or engineer.
- How to keep the RCM analysis and corresponding EAM catalogs current, and
- How to ensure accurate, relevant work order historical data in the EAM for subsequent reliability analysis. – 1/2 day. Cloud software.
- Reliability analysis. Continuously improving maintenance effectiveness does not happen by accident. Without analysis there can be no increase in performance. Now that Living RCM will have ensured analyzable data, this module will train engineers in these essential areas of analysis: – about 1 day
- Age based analysis: Weibull analysis, PM optimization. Educational software version.
- Condition based analysis: Extending Weibull to include relevant condition based maintenance data. Understanding how to develop a CBM decision policy. Monitoring the performance of a CBM policy. Evaluation software.
- RAM analysis: (Optional) Models for optimizing maintenance for structural changes in plant configuration. Public domain software.
- Root Cause analysis: (Optional) A structured evaluation (NASA) method that identifies the root causes for an undesired outcome and the actions adequate to prevent recurrence.
Every participant will receive perpetual access to a complete set of continuously updated course notes and videos (accessible from the course outline). As well, the participant will have access to the educational versions of the
