The idea behind EXAKT is an appealing one. What can be more desirable than a systematic way to determine the “exact” relationship between condition monitoring data and impending failure?
Although I wish that I could say that EXAKT auto-magically generates predictive models, I cannot. EXAKT translates the occurrences of PFs, FFs, and Ss of failure modes identified on work orders into optimized CBM decision policies. Current maintenance information procedures based on a variety of failure codes systematically allow such valuable experience to slip through our fingers into the black hole known as the CMMS.
Living RCM intercepts the lost information by capturing both knowledge and work order instances of knowledge. Reliability analysis of samples comprising failure and suspension events precedes all maintenance improvement. EXAKT is a software enabled reliability analysis system. Given a sample of life cycles and concurrent condition monitoring data, the software will determine which, if any, monitored variables contain predictive capability. Minimal investment is required in modifying existing software such as the CMMS work order form. The major investment is in the need to shift the perspective of the engineers, planners, and technicians to “thinking RCM” at work order closure.
